Site

Positioning the new Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center at the site of the existing convention center, with grand views of Lake Erie and the downtown corridor, is the most advantageous location for this premier facility.

The grand entrance of Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center will be located on the corner of Mall Drive and St. Clair. The new convention center will fill the space under Malls B and C and Public Auditorium. The existing mall and public space will be improved and expanded, creating a beautiful venue for Clevelanders and international visitors alike. With an architecturally significant grand entrance overlooking the Mall and lakefront, Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center will visually represent the Cleveland’s strength and significance in the international healthcare marketplace.

There are many reasons that Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center will succeed at the Mall site over any other.

First to Market

By designing and developing a facility which incorporates land currently occupied by the existing convention center, MMPI will be able to deliver the facility more quickly than any other site and ahead of other potential competitors.

Historic Preservation and Sustainability

The adaptive reuse and historic preservation of the current convention center, is not only an economic benefit, but can also re-energize civic pride and bolster Cleveland’s sense of history and character. The goals of preservation and sustainability are intertwined with the goals of economic effectiveness, and the re-use of the existing architecture will save the County millions of dollars.

Re-engerize Mall

Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center provides an opportunity for the city of Cleveland to repurpose and reenergize its existing public space. A grand entrance to the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center overlooking the Mall will create a warm welcome to medical professionals, convention attendees and visitors. The Mall, originally envisioned by Daniel Burnham, will be improved and expanded drawing more people to experience the beautiful park and lakefront views. This project gives the city the opportunity to emulate the Millennium Park in Chicago and Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, which have been so transformative to those cities.

Proximity to City Center

The Mall site will be centrally located in downtown Cleveland, the epicenter of activity. Conveniently positioned across the street from 2 hotels and within walking distance to all other downtown hotels, the facility will be perfectly suited in close proximately to restaurants and entertainment venues including the Warehouse District, E. 4th Street, Gateway and Browns Stadium and the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. There is easy access to taxis and public transportation to the airport, Euclid Corridor and University Circle medical facilities. There is also enormous underutilized parking available close to the site. The Medical Mart and Convention Center will revitalize this area and bring hundreds of thousands of people to Cleveland each year.

Financial Benefits

The Mall is the only site within the budget dictated by the sales tax collection that still meets the programming needs of the Medical Mart and convention center and which offers connectivity to downtown infrastructure and amenities.

Extensive Research

For the past six months, MMPI has done extensive research and engaged a team of architects, estimators, engineers and consultants to evaluate more than 30 different development scenarios and renderings of the three leading sites. MMPI selected Valerio Dewalt Train to lead the architectural development and engaged several different construction and estimating firms to help apply cost estimates to the various scenarios. The County Commissioners selected the Mall site based on the compilation of extensive research.
