Wellness Shop: An Idea Whose Time Has Come

With obesity and diabetes at an all-time high in America, consumers are realizing it’s crucial to be fit. OfficeMax founder Michael Feuer’s one-stop wellness shop, Max-Wellness, couldn't have come at a better time.
In January, Feuer opened his first Max-Wellness in Westlake’s Crocker Park. A second Cleveland store will open in May near Chagrin Boulevard’s Eton Collection.
A man who believes in being well, Feuer is a regular runner and consumer of wellness products. Max-Wellness store employees — experienced in nursing, nutrition and personal training — believe in wellness, too. As a University Hospitals Case Medical Center trustee, Feuer is familiar with operating rooms, intensive care units and our country’s health climate.
Employee wellness programs are being advertised and implemented nationwide. Wellness blogs, online communities, podcasts and cell phone apps allow us to share experiences virtually. We can record the calories we consume and burn, as well as the weight lost. Stress reduction programs and healthy recipe cooking videos are at our fingertips. Web sites like WebMd, LiveStrong, Lime and SparkPeople make access to wellness information easy. No wonder this industry has hit the $100 billion-a-year mark.
Max-Wellness has an inventory of more than 7,000 products, including a prescriptive CrocsRx footwear line, and items for smoking cessation, weight loss, sleep and sexual wellness. Daily wellness seminars and private consultations are also available.
With two new stores in Sarasota and Naples, Fla., Feuer plans to open five more by year’s end. Products will soon be available on the web — another savvy, consumer-friendly business move.
