Medical Mart construction sets recycling bar high
FROM WKYC-TV 3: CLEVELAND -- Before construction crews can build a new convention center to be combined with the Medical Mart, they must tear down and dismantle the old one. MMPI, the project developer, is committed to recycle as much of the demolished building materials as possible. The goal is to recycle and reuse at least 95 percent of the concrete, metal and other building materials and equipment being deconstructed. The 95 percent recycling rate would be a construction record for a big project in Northeast Ohio, according to Michele Kilroy, of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.

Community Outreach Update - 4/29/11
MMPI has hired the joint venture of Minority Business Solutions (MBS) and North Coast Minority Media LLC (NCMM) to serve as the Compliance Monitoring Coordinator for SBE and Workforce Utilization team during the construction of the project. MMPI, in cooperation with Turner Construction, Cuyahoga County, and the City of Cleveland, created a scope of work and a request for proposals.

Construction Update - 4/27/11
With the 100-day no lost time worker safety milestone approaching on Friday, crews working on Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center have passed the 95% mark on demolition of the old Convention Center. The East Stair Tower and Loading Dock Connection at Lakeside Avenue are the lone remaining areas for demolition north of Lakeside Avenue and are slated for demolition within the next week. Interior demolition continues in the existing Exhibit Halls C and D on the lower level with more than 90% of the demolition completed. On the south side of Lakeside Avenue, the Mall B rooftop demolition has passed the 95% mark while continued demolition of the topping slab is 75% completed.

Med Mart crews eye recycling goal: Some materials to be used at new complex
Instead of using stone tools, these modern-day mound-builders operate backhoes, cranes and 100 trucks, the latter of which are loaded with concrete, soil or other materials that are hauled across downtown daily from the construction site of the Cleveland Medical Mart and Convention Center.

Construction Update - 4/14/11
The demolition of the 113 Building was completed last weekend, the last structure of the five buildings scheduled for demolition on the West Block, located at the corner of St. Clair and Ontario. In three months, crews demolished the Justice Center parking deck, the Chicago Title and County Annex buildings, the Sportsmans Restaurant, and the 113 Building. Haul out activities will continue for the remainder of the week and foundation demolition is scheduled to begin next week.
